 Travel & Tourism

The A level in Travel and Tourism encourages students to develop broad skills, knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industry. It prepares students for further study or training in travel and tourism related occupations. Students are encouraged to develop and sustain an interest in travel and tourism and the issues affecting the industry. As well as appreciating the positive and negative impacts travel and tourism may have on people, the environment and the economy.

As with the Business A level, two thirds of the course is assessed through assignment work. Some of these assignments study local tourism organisations in the Newcastle area. Below is a photograph of a recent visit to the Slieve Donard Hotel. The students studied this famous hotel which attracts international customers and has a significant international workforce.

Units of study also include a number of travel destinations as well as the structure of the travel and tourism industry. Students completed research assignments on Paris and Orlando and also taken part in debates on the Mourne National Park. This issue has national and international implications for the Mourne area.

The A level in Travel and Tourism will give you a broad background in the travel and tourism industry, which will allow you to progress to further or higher education, training or employment.
