Key Stage 3

During years 8 - 10 students study a mixture of human and physical geography making good use of our stunning local natural environment and nearby urban areas for fieldwork. In Year 8 students carry out a weather study in the school grounds and visit the Balmoral Show. In Year 9 they conduct a river study of the Shimna River and in Year 10 they go on a trip to Newry to investigate how accessible shopping centres are for people with disabilities.

Year 9 fieldtrip to the Shimna River

We have a number of link schools that we exchange work with including King Edward VI Humanities College, Kent;  St Cecelia's College, Northern Ireland; Lindelundsskolen, Denmark; Presentation College, Galway and Florian Porcius in Romania. We also have a link school in Chilie.

We believe Geography is a fascinating subject which lends itself well to a number of different teaching approaches and has something to suit everyone. This year for example students gave presentations on different E.U.and world countries and were assessed by their peers.
