 People and Planet

This is an extra curricular activity organised through the business department but open to all sixth form students. It gives students the chance to develop their understanding of business ethics. It is also an opportunity to make a practical difference in the world by campaigning and raising awareness about international social justice and environmental issues.

Our college group work is part of a network of young people who are linked to the People and Planet organisation. There are 78 People & Planet groups in sixth forms and further education colleges. They are exploring global issues and campaigning on both Fairtrade and Climate Change.

Fairtrade campaigning involves positive local action such as asking local shops and cafes to stock Fairtrade products, having exhibitions and tasting stalls, giving assemblies or selling Fairtrade products at parents evenings. This is also an opportunity for business students to practice their enterprise skills!

On Climate Change sixth formers are raising awareness about the threat of climate change and collecting ‘pledges’ in their schools and colleges whereby people promise to make lifestyle changes that will cut their carbon emissions.

Involvement in successful campaigns can also look great on a CV or university applications. This is one of the reasons we would encourage students to get involved in Year 13.

The group meet in Room 237  on Thursdays at 3.30pm every 2weeks. See Pat Lenny for further details.
