At GCSE and A Level students are encouraged to pursue their interests choosing their own personal themes for their Core Portfolio at GCSE level and Coursework Portfolio at A Level. All students are encouraged to exploit their strengths and reach their full potential. Students enjoy and edit their own work in preparation for interviews and exhibitions at GCSE, AS and A2 Level.

Community Links

The Art Department has a strong link with the local community. During the past years students have painted shop windows to celebrate the festive Christmas season.

Art students have also painted a large Mural entitled, ‘Earth, Wind and Fire’ which is on view at Newcastle Harbour.

GCSE and A Level students exhibit their work annually at The Down Arts Centre during the months of July and August alongside other local schools. The Art Department has supported fundraising for Mary Murray House by supplying banners for the appeal on local television.

Gordon Donaldson is our most recent, award winning art graduate.  Gordon is an up and coming fashion designer, winning the Wedding Journal Young Designer of the Year 2012 and the Diet Coke Design Award 2013.
